5 Essential Tips for Visiting Seven Mile Beach

1. Arrive Early

As the most popular beach on Grand Cayman, it is no surprise that Seven Mile Beach attracts a lot of people. If you arrive early, you may beat the crowds. I arrived at around 9 AM with my group, and we were the only people there!

Not a morning person? Consider walking down the beach to a peaceful area. Being that it is (almost) 7 miles long, you surely will find one!

2. Chairs and Umbrellas Will Cost You

Chair and umbrella rentals are available on the beach. I believe they were either $5 or $10 USD in cash (sorry, I do not quite remember, as I did not rent them myself), but the price can vary by company.

I never rent chairs and umbrellas, so I brought a towel to lay on. However, I understand if you want to rent – I am always a tiny bit jealous of the people who do!

3. You Can Visit on a Cruise

It was easy to visit Seven Mile Beach from my cruise to Grand Cayman, as it is only a 10-minute drive from the port! I sailed with MSC and booked an excursion to the beach through them. However, excursions can be pricey, and this one in particular only provided a transfer (no frills at all); you can take a bus or taxi for much cheaper.

Note: The picture below was taken in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. I just wanted to show you my boat!

Taking a cruise is one of the best methods for visiting Seven Mile Beach.

4. Bring Snorkel Gear

The Cayman Islands are known for having some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean. There are several snorkeling spots off the coast of Seven Mile Beach. Of these, the Wreck of the Gamma is probably the most famous. This shipwreck is located on the southern end of the beach and is easily accessible from the shore – just about 20 yards away. It is a must-see for anyone in the area looking for an underwater adventure.

This article is about Seven Mile Beach, of course, but Grand Cayman has so many other snorkel spots to explore; Stingray City is one of the most popular. I highly recommend you check out as many as you can!

5. Bring Cash

It is essential to bring cash with you to Seven Mile Beach, especially if you intend on eating or renting a chair and/or umbrella. When I was there, they were collecting cash for chair and umbrella rentals, and local, cash-only vendors were selling food on the beach.

However, there is no need to rush to your bank for a currency exchange if you are only going to be there for a short period time and are from the United States. All of the vendors I came across accepted USD.

Final Thoughts: Your Perfect Day at Seven Mile Beach

As we all know, Seven Mile Beach is more than just a beautiful stretch of sand. By choosing the right time and method of visiting, bringing essential items, and understanding the logistics of such a trip, you’ll enhance your experience and take advantage of all this paradise has to offer.
